Effective 1.1.08, the Secretary of State will now require all new and renewing notaries to provide a
2" x 2" color passport photo the day of your notary class/exam. A passport photo is required each time
you renew your commission every 4 years.
The State does NOT want to see your passport, they want a separate photo to attach
to your application. This must be in a passport photo format not a photo you print of
yourself from your computer.
You can obtain a passport photo at most post offices, mail box centers,
CVS pharmacies, Costco etc. Even some AAA members can get it for free.
You can still take your exam without the passport photo however if you fail to provide a passport
photo of yourself at the time you take your State exam, your commission will be delayed until
such time as you provide the photo to the Secretary of State. This photo will be put with your file in
PLAN AHEAD! No exceptions
